Skye Hughes

Educator and Co-Founder of the Youth Engagement Project (YEP)

Skye Hughes is a bold educator, dynamic presenter, and co-founder of the Youth Engagement Project, dedicated to transforming the way we connect with young people through education. With over a decade of experience in schools across Australia, Skye brings a wealth of insight, humour, and heart to everything she does.

Leading in Education with Purpose and Passion

From elite schools to suburban classrooms, and most recently as part of a Middle School Leadership team in the private sector, Skye has seen the full spectrum of the education system. What unites her experiences is a deep belief that teaching is one of the most powerful, yet under-celebrated, professions in the world.

She is immensely proud to be a teacher, but also honest about the challenges. Skye believes the system is ready for a shake-up, and she’s here to help lead it. Through her work, she empowers educators and youth workers to reignite their passion and build real, lasting engagement with the young people they serve.

From the Classroom to the Big Stage

Skye holds a Bachelor of Arts (Film and English Literature) and a Bachelor of Secondary Education, as well as Graduate Certificates in both International and Community Development and Careers Education and Development. She also studied public speaking at Stanford University, refining her skills as a communicator and storyteller.

Through the Youth Engagement Project, Skye supports teachers, facilitators and youth professionals across Australia with practical tools to make their sessions more engaging, human, and real. Her approach is equal parts grounded and energising, built on years of lived experience.

Down to Earth, Driven by Heart

When she’s not working with educators or supporting young leaders, you’ll likely find Skye walking her dog, Pickles (named after Tommy Pickles from Rugrats), or mastering the art of crispy cooking with the grill setting on high. She’s a dedicated lifelong learner, a passionate advocate for equity in education, and a proud voice for change.
